My name is Heather Saez and I am a cheapskate.
And I live in one of the most expensive (but wonderful) states in the USA: California.
You might ask, “But isn’t California really expensive for a cheapskate to be living?” Well, this is part of the reason why I started this blog. I want to show you all of the great things that this state has to offer, many of which are cheap (or even free)! I don’t like spending my money on things that are not worth it, and I want to share the things that I feel are worth your hard-earned money so you can have a good experience here.
Some people think of this “California Dream” fantasy and can barely imagine vacationing here, let alone leaving the comfort of your home state and actually MOVING here. That’s ok; I felt the same way at one time. I never imagined I would actually be living here one day. That would be some sort of wild dream. Now that I am here I want to show you that it is totally possible to enjoy the perfect California vacation while on a budget, or even to relocate and become a Californian like I did!
Life Abroad, before California
Because this is my home and I just love California so much, most of my writing will be about life in (and near) California. But before I moved to California I spent a couple of years living with my husband in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
I had such a great experience living in Puerto Vallarta, and I want to share how moving to another country was one of the best decisions in my life. Puerto Vallarta has a lot to offer and I am looking forward to sharing my ideas on how to have a great Mexican vacation, as well as all of the best things to do there (and where to find the best street tacos)! Yummy!
I also had my wedding there (can it still be considered a destination wedding if I lived there?!), so if you are a soon-to-be bride and have any questions about having a Mexican destination wedding, don’t be afraid to reach out! I can definitely provide tips on how to get things done and how to keep it cheap (but also perfect)!
So, why did I decide to start a blog?
I want to give information, inspiration, and tips about the places I see and things I do.
When I moved to California I was by myself for about six months, with no family or friends in the area. So, what did I do? I went on the internet, Pinterest, and Instagram and searched for things to do, where to eat, and so on. And bloggers helped me A LOT. They gave me so much information on how to get settled in here, and that’s what I want to do. I want to give information, inspiration, and tips about the places I see and things I do. I love California and Puerto Vallarta, and I want to share my excitement for these places with others.
Why do I consider myself a “cheapskate”?
As you can imagine, moving from Mexico to California was definitely not easy on the budget. I had to learn how to make quite a few budget changes, which I feel taught me to be a little more “cheapskate” than normal. With this experience, I want to share some tips and ideas on how to enjoy California (and general life) while sticking to a budget.
I may not be a cheapskate with everything in life, but with certain things I am. I have a strong desire to have and do things that add value to my life. If something doesn’t add value to my life then why would I waste my money on it? I wouldn’t want you to do that either. We all work hard for our money!
There are many people who choose to spend their money on fancy dinners, expensive cars and clothes, and that’s great for them, but that’s not what I am into. I would rather have a small budget for those items and save my money for things I am passionate about, like traveling and exploring!
I hope this gave you a good idea of me! Thanks for reading!
